The Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, also known as the Mater Hospital, is a level 4 teaching hospital located in Dublin’s north inner city.
The hospital originally opened in 1861 by the Sisters of Mercy and today, it provides a range of frontline and specialist services not just on a local level but also on a regional and national level.
The Mater Hospital is a 665-bed teaching hospital for the University College Dublin. Not to mention, it also contains a negative-pressure ventilation ward that houses the National Bio-Terrorism Unit.
